With junior athletes training multiple times per day and travelling across the country for sporting performances, academic performances can take a backseat and their education can suffer if it is not properly managed. Homeschooled child actors spend a lot of time rehearsing and touring, as well as performing with an intensive schedule that leaves little time for the basics of numeracy and literacy, so Lionheart Education aims to create a timetable that works for everyone.

We know just how important it is to create a viable academic route for each child that blends in well with their other commitments without overwhelming them. Our tutors have lots of experience with homeschooling child actors in theatre and film, and we take into account everything from the performance times and rest days to the age and ability of the child. Young athletes being homeschooled have lots of expectations placed on them, not only in their chosen sport but educationally too. Lionheart Education can work with parents and students to design academic schedules that note the importance of training loads, but also give enough attention to their education progress so they don’t fall behind.

We understand that a child athlete may have coaches, physios, and club commitments, and we work around these rather than interfering with them, building a completely bespoke education model around them. For example, during tournament weeks when they need to train harder and maintain focus, we can deliver lighter, less mentally taxing lessons, but then organise an intensive catch-up period when they are in the recovery period after.

We can also step up revision as exams approach, while still allowing the child to give their all to their sporting life. A flexible school for sporting children is what Lionheart aims to deliver, protecting their core academic studies and working towards the relevant qualifications. Our homeschool tuition team for young athletes can engage with families with ties to UK Sport and the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme, giving a route to re-enter schooling at a later date, or continue through to homeschooling GCSE and A-Levels.

Whether it’s for stage or screen, homeschooling for young performers gives children the balance they need to succeed in education as well as their career. Our tutors understand the life of production, and we are able to deliver a full academic programme that is suitable for a homeschooled child actor, musician, dancer, singer or any other type of young performer.

We can liaise with agents and chaperones where necessary to ensure sessions are delivered when the child is alert and ready to learn, rather than lessons becoming a chore they cannot engage properly with.

We will always be able to give advice and adhere to licences for professional work, and walk you through the GOV.UK child performance licences and Children (Performances and Activities) (England) Regulations 2014, as well as homeschooling legal guidelines.

    Even without the rigour of full schooling that spans 2 years, Lionheart Education can deliver GCSE and A-Level lessons in a wide variety of subjects including English, Maths, Geography, History, French, Spanish, and all of the individual sciences. We also have a registered exam centre at Lionheart School London where students can sit public examinations.

  • How many hours of academic work is realistic for a serious junior athlete?

    In a school setting, children receive approximately 5 hours of tuition per day, but with focused learning in 60- to 90-minute blocks, Lionheart tutors can deliver the same high-quality tuition across the week. Children of different ages have different requirements, with more hours in the GCSE years compared to junior school-age children.

  • Do you provide tutoring on set, on tour, or at training camps?
