Online homeschooling designed for your child

Parents who have decided to homeschool their children often have concerns that they aren’t able to teach each individual subject with the care and precision of mainstream school teachers. That’s why many families turn to additional tuition for their child, to bring them up to speed in line with the curriculum they’re working towards. One of the best ways families can fit in extra tuition for homeschooled children is to take advantage of online tuition sessions delivered by subject experts.

Lionheart Education has been providing online home education tuition for more than 25 years, working with students based both in the UK and internationally. We do offer in-person tuition to families in London, but if you live elsewhere and need access to high-quality tutoring from specialist tutors, Lionheart delivers planned sessions directly to your home via the internet.

Expert tutors for flexible learning online

The same excellent tutors who provide in-person tuition also tutor online, with lessons built to cater to the exact needs of each student, depending on their age and level of study. This is ideal for families and students who have busy lives and are trying to balance their homeschooling around work and family life, as well as extracurricular activities like sports. Online tuition for homeschooled children revolves around them and can be carried out at any time of the day, which makes it much more flexible than the standard school day.

Students can relax in their own home and focus on the tuition sessions with everything they need, saving time travelling to tutor sessions in other locations. Home education always provides a more individual route for learning. Online sessions are tailored to each child, with pace being adjusted as they require, and questions explored in greater depth one-on-one, rather than competing for attention with a class or thirty or more students. Whether you choose a broad model of study with an online tutor for primary or KS3 stages, or opt for specific subject tuition at GCSE or A-Level, Lionheart’s online tutoring for homeschooling adapts to meet your needs.

How Lionheart online tuition for homeschooling is structured

  • Full-time online homeschooling

For families who prefer to maintain an intensive programme of education outside of the mainstream system, we offer full-time online homeschooling tutors to provide a clear academic structure with multiple sessions per week in a variety of subjects. The timetable will always be designed around the student’s academic goals, taking the core subjects into account as well as giving students the independence to explore topics of interest. Academic progress is monitored throughout the program, and students can work with multiple tutors to achieve their objectives.

  • Part-time online homeschooling

When a full-time online timetable is not required, Lionheart tutors can provide specialist tuition in particular subjects to deliver sessions that deepen knowledge and spark further independent study. Flexibility is key to online homeschooling, so we work with parents to discuss the type of tuition that will best serve them. English, Maths, and Science are some of the most popular types of homeschooling tuition we offer online as they cover the core knowledge needed, but we can also broaden horizons with online tutors for languages like French and Spanish, as well as History, Geography, and Computer Science.

  • Flexible online homeschooling

One of the best aspects of online tuition is the flexibility that comes with it. Families might be travelling, relocating to a different country, or have children with sporting commitments, which means tuition needs to be stable and shaped around them. Timetables for homeschooled children benefit from a much greater flexibility, and we work with parents to set goals children can work towards, whether it’s preparing for GCSE or taking A-Level studies online. Parents can book online tuition sessions on days and at times that suit them best to maintain solid academic progress.

  • Online SEND tutoring for homeschooling

Students with SEND who are being homeschooled have unique educational requirements, whether it’s in the way that they learn or are working towards goals as part of an EHC plan. Lionheart online tutors work with children who have a wide range of SEND, including anxiety, ADHD, autism, dyslexia, school refusal, or complex needs. Online lessons reduce the strain on children as they benefit from personalised one-to-one tuition that is calm and carefully paced to match the child. Online tuition sessions for SEND children who are homeschooled allow them to flourish academically in a familiar home environment.

  • We provide online tuition for multiple subjects

A child in mainstream schooling can expect 6 or more lessons each day in a range of subjects to provide lots of diversity. This is something that many families can struggle with, as it means planning dozens of individual lessons per week, each tailored to the curriculum. A large number of home educating families don’t want to replicate this intensive timetable when teaching at home, and instead aim to support their children across the whole academic journey by focusing on a handful of key subjects.

In primary school, the main focus is on literacy with English lessons and numeracy with Maths lessons, with additional sessions in Science. As children move into secondary education, a greater depth of study is needed, and tuition can begin to include individual subjects like History, Geography, or French. We believe homeschooled children learning online should have access to everything mainstream schooling offers, so that’s why we create bespoke programs in multiple subjects suitable for children in primary school all the way to A-Level.

  • Dedicated online tutors

All of our subject-specific tutors have backgrounds in the subjects they will be teaching online, and understand how to deliver online lessons using all of the resources available to them to make each session engaging. Lionheart online tutors deliver high-quality sessions using digital whiteboards, screen and file sharing, as well as video conferencing, which makes it feel like they’re in the room with you. All tutors are DBS checked and hold relevant qualifications and work experience in subjects they teach to make sure your homeschooling online tuition is delivered to the highest of standards.

Frequently asked questions

  • Can online homeschooling be arranged on a part-time tutoring basis?

Lionheart online tuition for home education is completely flexible, and you can choose how many sessions and in which subjects you need per week. We often find that parents cover parts of their child’s education plan themselves and then rely on subject-specific tutors to strengthen understanding in core subjects to maintain strong academic progress.

  • Do you provide live online tutoring rather than prerecorded lessons?

All of the online tutoring from Lionheart is live, delivered by a tutor at a time of your choosing. We never use prerecorded lessons, as a live session allows tutors to work at the pace of the child, be right there to answer any questions that arise, and keep the session focused on specific academic goals.

  • Are your online homeschooling tutors vetted in the same way as in-person tutors?

The same tutors who teach children in-person also conduct our online sessions, and each tutor is thoroughly vetted and checked for the highest standards of safeguarding. Our tutors have a wealth of academic credibility and work experience, and we select less than 1% of tutors who apply to be part of Lionheart.

  • Can my child have one tutor for several subjects or different tutors for each subject?

Lionheart online tuition is always tailored to your preferences, and tuition can be arranged however you see fit. We can provide a single tutor to cover multiple areas of study, especially for pre-KS3 children, such as literacy and numeracy. Or, if you prefer, GCSE students can have a different specialist tutor for each subject they are taking.

  • What technology do we need for online homeschooling tuition?

Online sessions only require students to have a computer with an internet connection, as well as a microphone and speakers to ensure efficient communication. It’s often best for the child to have a dedicated zone in the home where they can learn quietly and without distraction for the whole of the session.
