7+ Entry

The 7 Plus is often a child’s first experience of formal school assessment, and that makes the tone of preparation especially important. At this age, children are still developing confidence, attention, early literacy, and basic maths fluency. Good preparation therefore needs to feel encouraging and age-appropriate, while still building the skills required for selective entry.

This category focuses on the 7 Plus admissions process, including assessments, interviews, and the wider question of school readiness. We consider how families can prepare children thoughtfully without creating unnecessary pressure, and how to recognise when a school is the right fit for the child in front of them. The goal at this stage is not simply performance, but confidence and positive engagement. When preparation is well judged, children are better able to approach assessments calmly and show what they can genuinely do.
