Lionheart combines private tuition, flexible homeschooling and strategic consultancy to support young people balancing elite pursuits with academic ambition

How we supported an elite race car driver

Balancing elite sport with a serious education is rarely straightforward. For Kit, a nationally ranked karting driver competing across Europe, the challenge wasn’t motivation — it was time, energy, and continuity.

By the age of 14, Kit was travelling most weekends, training intensively during the week, and missing long stretches of school. His parents knew that without a different educational approach, something would have to give.

A considered alternative to mainstream schooling

Lionheart was introduced as a solution that could offer both academic rigour and genuine flexibility. What reassured the family was not simply the promise of one-to-one tuition, but the depth of oversight behind it — a senior team that could design, manage, and adapt Kit’s programme over time.

From the outset, Lionheart worked to understand the full picture: competition schedules, recovery days, travel demands, and academic goals beyond the next season.

A programme built around performance — academic and athletic

Kit’s timetable combined subject-specialist tutors with a clear weekly structure that flexed around training blocks and race weekends. Lessons were moved when travel intervened, intensity was adjusted during competition periods, and expectations remained high throughout.

As a registered examination centre, Lionheart also provided certainty around GCSE planning, removing the anxiety of exam logistics from an already demanding schedule.

Mentorship beyond the syllabus

One of Kit’s tutors became a consistent mentor — helping him develop time-management strategies, confidence in communication, and the ability to reflect on both wins and setbacks. These skills proved as valuable as the academic content itself.

Over time, Kit became more independent in managing his workload, learning how to prepare efficiently between races and maintain focus during high-pressure periods.

Looking ahead

Today, Kit continues to compete internationally while progressing confidently through his qualifications. Lionheart remains involved — adjusting his programme as commitments evolve and advising on longer-term pathways, including university options that align with both his academic strengths and sporting ambitions.

For Kit and his family, the value lay not just in flexibility, but in having an educational partner who could think several steps ahead — calmly, professionally, and with the student firmly at the centre.

Frequently asked questions

  • Can students study alongside full-time training or competition?

Yes. Many of our students train or compete at a professional or pre-professional level. We design academic programmes that fit around demanding schedules, adjusting lesson times, intensity, and pacing to ensure education remains sustainable and rigorous.

  • Do students follow a recognised curriculum?

Students typically follow UK curricula such as GCSEs, IGCSEs, A Levels, or the IB, though international pathways are also supported. We are a registered examination centre, allowing students to sit exams in a familiar, low-pressure environment where appropriate.

  • Do you support university or scholarship applications?

Yes. Many students working with us require expert guidance on school placement, university admissions, scholarships, or international pathways. Our consultancy team works alongside tutors to ensure academic choices support long-term ambitions.

  • Will the tutor live in our home, or can they live elsewhere?

Tutors can live in your home or nearby, depending on your family’s preference. Many families choose live-in arrangements for continuity and convenience, but tutors can also stay in a local apartment or hotel. In all cases, a private bedroom is required to ensure professional boundaries and a comfortable environment for everyone.
