How we select our tutors
Most agencies rely on CVs and tutoring experience. While important, we’ve found that’s not enough. We developed our own multi-stage process — designed to identify tutors who not only know their subject but know how to connect, engage, and unlock real learning.
-
Initial vetting process
Fewer than 10% of applicants are invited to interview.
We look for Oxbridge graduates or those with equivalent academic distinction — but credentials alone aren’t enough.
We seek individuals with warmth, curiosity, and the ability to inspire young minds — because personality matters as much as subject expertise.
-
Three-stage interview
Three interviews whittle down our candidate pool to below 5%.
Candidates demonstrate their teaching methodology through mock lessons, showing us how they adapt to different learning styles and engage students.
We assess their ability to explain complex concepts clearly, respond to questions with patience, and inspire genuine enthusiasm for their subject.
-
Enhanced background checks
Ensuring a safe and trusted learning environment. Always.
Every tutor undergoes enhanced DBS checks and we obtain detailed references from both academic institutions and previous employers.
We verify qualifications, explore teaching experience, and speak directly with referees to understand each candidate’s character, reliability, and impact on students.
-
Continuous investment in our tutors
We invest in long-term relationships — with families and tutors.
Our relationship with tutors doesn’t end at hiring. We conduct regular client satisfaction surveys, maintain ongoing communication with families, and provide continuous professional development opportunities.
This ensures our tutors not only meet but consistently exceed expectations throughout their time with Lionheart.
